FinOps and Azure cost optimization
We analyze Azure consumption and implement cost improvements with capacity, performance and service continuity considered together.
Understand platform costs and where to act
A higher bill can reflect increased activity, a new workload or resources that have fallen outside routine review. Before proposing changes, it helps to separate these causes and relate spending to the services the organization uses.
MSAdvance reviews consumption with the platform’s technical and financial owners. We identify resources without owners, underused capacity and opportunities for adjustment. Each recommendation includes its dependencies, expected impact and a way to check the result after implementation.
- Consumption explained by service, subscription and owner.
- Improvements prioritized with their conditions and dependencies.
- Results reviewed after changes are made.
When to review Azure costs
An unexplained increase in spending
Spending is rising, but it is difficult to connect the difference to specific services, projects or changes in activity.
Resources without owners
The purpose and ownership of subscriptions, virtual machines, disks or services are unclear to the team receiving the bill.
Savings without a clear baseline
Recommendations have been implemented, but there is no comparable baseline to establish their actual effect on spending.
FinOps assessment, optimization and governance
Consumption visibility
We analyze spending trends by subscription, resource group and service. We identify the components behind variations and establish a baseline for comparing periods and changes.
Cost allocation and ownership
We review subscription structure, tags and responsibilities. We propose a cost allocation model that helps departments understand their consumption and participate in platform decisions.
Sizing and usage
We compare resource size and operation with metrics and usage schedules. We prepare capacity, scheduling or service adjustments where workload behavior supports them.
Resources and architecture
We review inactive resources, storage, retention and architectural decisions affecting cost. Actions are coordinated with owners to check dependencies and recovery requirements.
Commitments and licensing
We assess commitment options and licensing conditions applicable to the included workloads. Recommendations consider consumption stability, term, coverage and flexibility before any commitment is made.
FinOps governance
We define budgets, alerts, ownership and a regular review process. Monitoring relates cost to activity so deviations and new opportunities can be identified as the platform changes.
Recommendations grounded in technical and cost data
Compare consumption before and after changes
Evaluating a change requires a spending and activity baseline. A lower bill may reflect reduced demand, differences between billing periods or a service change. The report separates those factors from the improvements implemented.
Each action includes the available estimate, implementation conditions and follow-up checks. Opportunities are prioritized by value, effort, dependencies and operational risk.
Adjust capacity while keeping service requirements in view
A lightly used virtual machine may support occasional demand or form part of a recovery procedure. Before reducing or removing it, we review metrics, schedules, dependencies and continuity requirements with its owner.
We also assess the effect on performance, support and operations. Changes requiring tests or maintenance windows form part of the technical plan and are approved with the client.
From consumption analysis to regular cost reviews
Baseline
Collect available cost, architecture and activity data.
Assessment
Review resources, capacity, usage and commitments.
Prioritization
Select improvements by impact, effort and technical conditions.
Implementation
Make agreed changes with testing and maintenance windows where required.
Review
Compare consumption and review deviations with the owners.
Project documentation and handover
- Consumption analysis and main cost drivers.
- Register of resources and areas with improvement opportunities.
- Prioritized plan with estimated impact, dependencies and owners.
- Recommendations for allocation, tags, budgets and alerts.
- Change records and checks for implemented actions.
- Cost monitoring model and periodic review process.
Scope, requirements and ongoing support
Do you guarantee a savings percentage?
Results depend on the starting point, usage and platform constraints. The assessment identifies opportunities and estimates their effect where sufficient data is available. Follow-up checks establish the results of implemented actions.
Can you start by explaining why our bill increased?
Yes. We review the periods, subscriptions and services behind the variation. This separates activity changes, new resources and other causes before actions are proposed.
Do you implement the changes?
Implementation can be included in the proposal or commissioned after the assessment. Each action is coordinated with the workload owner and includes testing, maintenance windows and recovery where required.
Do you recommend reservations or savings plans?
We evaluate them where they fit the workload’s usage and conditions. The review considers consumption stability, coverage, duration and the flexibility your organization needs before recommending a commitment.
Can you review a single subscription?
Yes. A project can cover one subscription, a group of services or a platform used by several departments. We define what to analyze and the information needed for useful findings.
What do you need to get started?
Read access to cost data and the agreed technical information, plus a contact familiar with the workloads. During the initial discussion, we agree permissions, the analysis period and operational constraints.
